The question marks over Collingwood continue they stayed with the regining premiers. It was a close start but Essendon got a small lead at 1/4 time by 11 points rumours that Collingwood would fall apart where proven false with a strong second quarter giving them a 5 point lead at 1/2 time. A close third quarter gave eseendon a brief lead of 1 point at 3/4 time a low scoring last helped Essendon won by 8 points to steady their title defence.

West coast (2-2) vs Richmond (3-1) Subiaco Friday night
Richmond made the trip west having not won in 14 years in Perth against West coast they however were in form. Richmond blew them away early leading by 28 points at 1/4 time. A closer second quarter extended richmond to a 36 point lead at 1/2 time. West coast than suddenly got back in it cutting it to 13 points at 3/4 time. A 5 goal to 1 last quarter though gave Richmond a 39 point win.

Carlton’s roller coaster looks to continue against the out of form St Kilda it was a match that could have been worse if not for bad kicking the first quarter was close with Carlton leading by 1 point at 1/4 time. Poor kicking in the second hurt their chances to run away with it leading by 12 points at 1/2 time. St Kilda stormed back in the third cutting it to 6 points at 3/4 time. Carton stormed home to win by 33 points leaving them on a win loss win loss win run

Another roller coaster side bulldogs take on the ladder leaders hawthorn a close first quarter had hawthorn up by 15 points at 1/4 time. 14 goals were kicked in the second hawthorn lead by 46 at one stage but they came back the bulldogs cutting it to 28 points at 1/2 time. The bulldogs amazingly were level late in the third before two late goals gave hawthorn a 12 point lead at 3/4 time. The hawthorn strengthens in the last to win by 29 points remaining the last undefeated side.

After big upsets last round these sides we’re out to get back to back wins but Adelaide got a jump in the first leading by 24 points at 1/4 time. But kangaroos got back to level at 1/2 time. Poor kicking in the third got Adelaide by 11 points at 3/4 time. And won by 15 points in an upset leaving the Roos in trouble for the first time under Dennis pagan.

In one of the games of the year two out of form sides verse freemantle started well leading by 16 points at 1/4 time. But Brisbane than kicked clear in the second leading by 11 points at 1/2 time. Freemantle than dominated leading by 9 points at 3/4 time. two early goals leading by 21 points they lead freemantle but Brisbane turned the match on its head with a 13 goal last quarter to win by a massive 49 points showing freemantle have lost four of their five last quarters but this was ridiculous

Port were out to continue their red hot form while Geelong were reeling going in. A close start saw Geelong lead by 1 point at 1/4 time. Port kicked 8 goals to 3 in the second to lead by 28 points at 1/2 time. Another 8 goals to 2 in the third put port into 3rd on the ladder and 68 points up at 3/4 time Geelong finished strong but not enough as they lost by 46 points.

After poor loses these sides had a point to prove Sydney started well leading by 7 points at 1/4 time. A 6 goal to 1 second quarter gave Melbourne leading by 22 points at 1/2 time. Sydney cut it to 15 points at 3/4 time but didn’t get closer as Melbourne held on to win by 15 points.
