ash and may arrive in pelteburg city where ash wants to take on the gym after may wonders off ash arrives at the gym and meets a boy named max who watched ash on tv during the johto league. ash mistakingly thinks he is the gym leader until maxs parents turn up as well as may (turns out may is maxs sister). after a chat they agree to an unoffical match due to ash only having pikachu in the match between pikachu and vigaroth is interupted by teamrocket who take torchic by mistake. the rescue doesn’t go according to plan easily but they get back torchic and sent team rocket blasting off. on mays parents recomendation max joins ash and may on their journey.
