an a340 is headed for toronto for air france from paris on august 2nd 2005 with 297 passengers on baord under the command of captain alan rosuyah (who is near retirmenet)and fo fredrick no there is a passenger in the jump seat. the a340 at this point has had no fatal crash. the weather in toronto today is not good due to a summer storm but the weather en route is good so it is a supprise to the passengers the delay due to the weather in toronto the alternate airport is ottawa. toronto has a red alert so they can’t work on the planes due to the storm but the delay isn’t long today. the fo is flying the approach into toronto. the storm isn’t letting up though on approach moments from landing the crew think they are all ready for landing on runway 24left. it is a worrying landing but just after the passengers applaud the landing they overrun the runway on landing going off a ravine. the plane catches fire on impact from fuel and they have 90 seconds to get off before the plane explodes from flames. the captain is badly hurt but everyone survives the inital impact but with only 90 seconds to get off the odds aren’t good. rescuers are quick to get there but can’t get too close. people rush them to the terminal the survivers but they think there are dead due to the expolosion from the flames 90 seconds after the crash. amazingly that night they find everyone has survived the crash there are no deaths at all just some injuries. the investigation focuses on the pilots and the weather find that the pilots had forgotten to activate the reversers on landing and also where too high and too fast on landing to stop in time on the shortest runway at the airport the captain probablly didn’t fly again as he was nearly retired anyway at the time of the crash and was the worst injured.
