a boeing 737 operating united flight 585 is on approach to colorado springs when they encounter heavy winds on approach and than rolls into the ground killing everyone on board no one realises when the investigation starts that it will take years to find the cause the investigation figures it is to do with the rudder but can’t prove what acctually caused the crash and there is very little evidence to point in the right direction even though the rudder control unit is suspected the winds couldn’t be ruled out either it is at the time only the 4th ntsb failed investigation but a us air flight approaches pitsburgh and has the same prolbem and crashes on approach killing all on board but again can’t figure out the crash despite the similairties to the united crash but with no weather involved but there was wake turballance in the area but it wouldn’t have caused the accident just as the ntsb is about to give up a third 737 operating an eastwind flight into richmond has the same problem but lands safely leading to them figuring out that the rudder can freeze during flight and that it could cause major banking that caused the other crashes.
next time a 747 encounters bad turballance and loses engine power will they land with the gear forced down.
