ash and friends arrive in town during a carnival which excites ash and brock who want to party while misty goes to keep her distance with pikachu. our heroes enjoy the carnival a lot misty encounters a magician who is losing his assistance due to lack of money from people not going to the show so he convinces misty to participate in his show. ash and brock are among the few people watching the show and are introduced to the magicians execute but his act is boring and he is kicked out of the carnival. ash tries to show him how to preform with pokemon showing the starter pokemons attacks in a way that might impress people team rocket are in the area. the magiciains execute reveal they know hypnosis which they use on ash and they then use it to help catch some executor using the starter pokemon. team rocket than attack to get the executor but the hypnosis attack confuses them. ash recovers but they find the executor about to attack the carnival which scares the people. ash uses his pokemon to attack the executor to keep them from being blown up by the mayors bomb and charmander does a good job but gets tired so melvin (the magician) helps beat them with fire. charmander than evolves into charmeleon and ash and friends say goodbye to melvin.
next time a trainer wants to evolve her paras but charmelon won’t listen to ash.
