ash and friends arrive at a small town pokemon center where they are told they have a call from professor oak who explains a pokedex upgrade which includes new pokemon that have been discovered professor oak says to ash to get more badges and pokemon. ash and friends decide to head to cinibar island and they discuss the pokemon egg that ash found and brock took from him which brock has been looking after. they think what pokemon it could be which are unlikely. team rocket decide to steal the pokemon egg and agree to break their run of failure. team rocket succesfully take it in a weird costume this works and meowth looks after it for a while which has no help from jessie or james (james wants to cook it). ash and friends find them eventually and try and get it back during the battle the egg hatches into togepi (only the 2nd johto pokemon to appear yet) it sees misty first (this will play a part later). after sending team rocket blasting off ash and friends argue over who gets to keep togepi and decide to battle it out with meowth entering the tornoument as well (jessie and james want to but because neither did anything they can’t enter). the first match is brocks onix versus meowth meowth wins by using a bucket of water on it which annoys brock. the next match is ash’s baulbasaur vs misty’s psyduck which ash wins easily by tickiling it. the final sees ash pikachu win in one attack but togepi only wants to go with misty so misty gets it.
