we start the movie with a bunch of scientists looking for mew the mythical pokemon for team rocket to create a powerful living replica of mew the man in charge also wants to use the technology to bring back his daughter amber they get a fossil of it and are doing research on cloning it. the scientist says that the clones don’t have concihionous but they are able to talk to each other. the clone of amber tries to explain the situation and they have clones of the starters as well. however most of the clones except mewtwo start to lose stabillity except mewtwo which survives and escapes taking out the doctor/scientist and all the other researchers even though they try there best to effect its memory it doesn’t work. giovanni finds mewtwo and makes a deal with it to be equal partners but is using it to help get pokemon for team rocket and doesn’t consider it equal once he admits it mewtwo attacks him and destroys team rocket headquarters. mewtwo wants revenge as well and plans to redesign the world. meanwhile ash and friends are taking a break and ash is hungry but is challenged to a battle the first match sees bulbasaur take on a donphan (a johto pokemon) which baulbasaur wins squirtle beats a machamp of the trainer and pikachu beats the rest of his pokemon. meanwhile someone gives ash and friends an invatation to meet the strongest pokemon trainer which jessie james and meowth find as well the image is of a woman they say it will go to new island. mewtwo launches a storm out of nowhere which cancels the ferry the transport to new island and we find out the pokemon center is out of action due to the nurse going missing. most trainers attempt to get to the island using their pokemon. ash and friends try and get there in a viking boat controlled by the usual team rocket members and are very lucky to get to the island. only 3 other trainers make it there brock thinks the woman who sent the invatation for mewtwo was the mising nurse joy but she lies about it. team rocket try and sneak in and find a weird science lab. mewtwo than reveals himself claiming to be the greatest trainer on earth even though its a pokemon. mew has been watching a lot of the scenes. mewtwo than does the talking on its own and the nurse joy is revealed. team rocket are supprised to be some pokemon in tanks at this point and find info from the doctor/scientist from earlier meowth getts cloned. one of the trainers acctually tries to catch mewtwo but its a mismatch for his rhyhorn. two of the trainers and ash battle the clones with the final forms of the starters but lose the match. mewtwo than starts to take the pokemon to clone them using some sort of dark pokeball he succeeds in getting most without issue but pikachu puts the biggest fight to it and nearly avoids but doesn’t but ash grabs the pokeball with pikachu in it breaking the machine. the clones appear to the other trainers with mewtwo saying he will spare the lives of them but the normal pokemon turn up with ash and they start to fight the clones. mew shows up to battle mewtwo and this leads to a long standoff which only ash’s piakchu and the meowth don’t fight at all. so ash sacrifices himself by getting in the way of the attacks to stop the fighitng this works and turns to stone but the tears of the pokemon bring ash back to life and convinces mewtwo to stop the fighting in the process and erases the memories of the people there and return them to the port where they don’t know why they where there and nurse joy suggests they go to the pokemon center ash than says he saw a legendry at the start of his journey and the movie ends.
