a dc-9 is on its way from huntsvile alamaba to atlanta georgia during the worst storm in years. with 81 passengers and 4 crew on board. captain bill mckenzie and fo limon kiel are flying the plane today. the weather is not good enroute the takeoff is normal. the weather is so bad they call a sigmet warning which also has tornadoes and terrible storms. the crew think they have seen a clear spot through the storm but its the worse of it and the windscreen busts and shortly after the engines fail after a power failure. the crew battle to climb after having droped a bit but it makes the engine stop they request to divert the flight to dobbins air force base as they can’t glide to atlanta but not before requesting a clear space which delays the landing and makes dobbins too far to glide they try another airport cartersfield but thats too far and they have to put the plane down on a highway which leads to a crash killing the two pilots and 60 passengers. 21 passengers and the 2 flight attendants survive. the cause of the failure of the engines was the heavy hail the crew encountered the cause of not being able to glide to an airport was partly because they took too long to head for dobbins and also another airport they where almost on top of at one point cornouleus moore but no one knew about it.
