ash and friends are taking a boat to cinibar island when they run into gary oak who says cinibar is now a resort and doesn’t even have a gym which annoys him. when they arrive on the island they find it as a tourist trap with all sorts of suvenior stands and run into a guy with a riddle about what tourists think the answer is hot springs which misty figures out and the guy explains that tourists have ruined the island ash asks about the gym and finds out it is in front of your eyes but it is destoryed for some reason the man gives ash and friends a card and than leaves. ash and friends first check out the pokemon lab which is not in use and is a tourist stand they than look for a hotel room and can’t find one even the pokemon center is full even finding where gary is staying who is about to be put to sleep by jigglypuff after making fun of ash. ash realises the card he gave them is a card for his hotel which misty figures out as a clock which they get to stay at but team rocket attack the pokemon lab which ash and friends as well as the man stop. we find out the man is the gym leader blaine and ash challenges him to a match at the new gym (a volcano). the battle starts after another riddle (blaine wears a wig) with ninetails versus squirtle with despite the type advantage ash loses quickly next up ash uses charizard who still won’t listen against rhydon so he loses (Rhydon is not a fire type). pikachu beats rhydon despite a type disadvantage but when blaine uses megmar it is a complete mismatch pikachu is being beaten and is about to fall in the volcano when the episode ends.
next time ash wants a rematch but if charizard won’t listen what hope does he have.
