a new l-1011 tristar is landing in miami from new york after christmas 1972 with 176 people on board under the command of captain bob loft fo albert stocksdale and second officer don repo just as they near miami the gear is lowered. the gear isn’t indicated down and they have to keep trying but it won’t indicate it down which will delay the landing they think its the bulb of the nose gear so they try and change it or they are not sure if its down the crew are cleared to 2000 feet while they change the bulb and head over the everglades. the crew put the autopilt on at 2000 feet and get the light removed but putting it back in takes time and the passengers notice the plane is decending not on its command and the plane suddenly hits the everglades killing 109 people on board 67 survive with many severily injured. the cause of the crash is determined to be the crews distraction with a failed light bulb and accidently turning the altitude hold off the autopilot by knocking it this lead to an uncontrolled decent into the ground the light bulb was the only technical problem
