ash and friends are in the stands watching garys 4th round match which gary ends up losing when his nidoking loses to melindas golem knocking gary out of the tornoument. gary tries to cheer his cheerleaders up who he partly blames for his loss with the cheering ash is nervous but brock makes sure ash still tries his best in the next match. misty reports to tell ash to go to the stadium for his match against janette fisher where team rocket are selling things at the stadium. the match is on the grass field with brock torn on who to cheer for. the first battle is bulbasaur vs beedril which despite the advantage going to janette ash is able to win the match so janette uses scyther and again despite types ash wins that match leaving janette with her bellspoout. brock cheers a bit too much for janette for mistys liking. ash underestimates bellsprout and it proves costly as it easily beats bulbasaur and pikachu but ash has a secret weapon muk (At this point professor oak and ash’s mum arrive to cheer ash on) ash ends up winning putitng him into the round of 16 and able to compete on the big stadium.
next time a new rival helps ash fight team rocket who also uses a pikachu.
