Hird was rushed to a Perth hospital after the collision with teammate McVeigh’s leg.
He suffered fractures to his cheekbone and eye socket. He was cleared of any eye damage, had surgery with plates inserted, and will remain in Perth for at least week until cleared to fly back to Melbourne. He will miss up to 8 weeks.
Also inured was Matthew Lloyd, who ruptured a ligament in his right ring finger. He will miss several weeks.
