on childrens day at united 1989 a dc-10 on its way from denver to chicago has an engine explode destroying the hydrollics and even a passenger who is already a senior pilot ends up helping and they almost like sioux city they crash onto the airfield killing 112 of 289 people the cause was a crack in the engine which caused it to explode and destroy the hydrolics how they nearly landed was amazing and until the dhl misile hit was the closest a plane had come to landing without hydrolics.
