ash and friends arrive at a festival dedicated to johto pokemon and meet a girl named lyra whose involved with the festival. lyra is going for johto badges and battles dawn with her chikorita but despite the advantage loses to dawns piplup. dawn gets a pokemon egg that team rocket steal but ash and friends get it back and the egg turns into a cyndaquil which dawn gets. lyra and her friend khorey decide to go with ash and friends to a nearby pokemon contest.
