in goldenrod city they heal their pokemon and are told the gym is booked for a few days but will put them down to battle in a few days. so they explore the city and do more look at shops than buying when the food suply is attacked by bad guys taking all the food and threatening them but they are stopped and whitney agrees to battle the gym leader.
