after take off from radiyah saudia arabia saudi flight 163 is on fire in the air as the pilots request return to the airport the smoke is intoxicating and is suffocating the passengers. the services are alerted. 17 minutes after the fire started it is spreading fast the landing doesn’t go accoridng to t he book and stops safely and shut down the enginges on a taxi way and say they are evacuating but the fire is spreading and the doors won’t open and they won’t turn the engines off delaying rescuers from getting to the plane and failing to get people off and in the end no one gets off in time leading to one of the worse accidents ever in a confusing way in 3 minutes its all over. 301 people are dead the 2nd deladiest single one at the time (1980) behind turkish 981. jal 123 is the current record holder. the doors weren’t even attempt to be opened and means incapacatation and know the damage is massive. the cause was not fuel or electrical shorts or hydrolic problem. they suspect terroism as well from extremists and there is no evidence of that. they even consider matches but that is another dead end. the aft cargo compartment is likely where the fire was and was presurised and find its bigger than its design and figure out that the design contributed to the strength of the fire and is how the smoke spread into the cabin. the pilots mistakes are now the focus of the investigation and the controller explains they waited 3 minutes to shut the engines down which lead to the disaster as well as the flight data explains it could have stopped on the runway and they wasted a lot of time shutting the plane down as well. the cvr reveals confusion over the alarm and the crew wasted time before the turned around as the capatin was skecptical and wasted time looking throught the worng checklist. the captain asks the flight enginneer twice to check the cabin with different assesments with smoke only the second time which leads to a stupid remark “no problem no problem at all” but the cvr failing before the landing they still blame the captain but without full evidence.
