ash finds a weedle which despite mistys protests tries to catch it with pidgeotto when misty finds a kid dressed as a samurai who wants to battle ash (Because ash is from pallet town). interupting ash’s catch allowing the weedle to escape and than battles with pinsir beating pidgeotto which is weakened but metapod evens the match so samurai uses his own metapod leading to an endless harden battle when some beedril steal ash’s because of samurai distracting things and causing the weedle to get away. ash does all he can to get metapod back but misty tries to stop him for their safety and summari critiercises ash in his cabin for the situation when a lot of this was samurais fault. ash tries to get metapod back while handeling team rocket and the beedril and admits it was partly his fault when he is about to be attacked metapod evolves into butterfree saving them with sleep power attack even putting team rocket to sleep. ash and samurai agree to batttle again sometime.
