this is a general thoughts on modern changes to the game and some ideas to make it “fair” on interstate sides.
should tasmania join the afl
yes in fact they should have joined before gold coast and gws as a stand alone franchise gold coast are only just playing ok but not good on the road tasmania has always been an afl state unlike qld and nsw if hardwick can’t get the suns into the finals before tassie joins than they not north or st kilda should be thrown out.
should north or st kilda be disolved
no the afl has done north bad in the past not accepting they have a 100 year supporter base and they would be stronger if it wasn’t for covid disruptions and the fact they should have been the merge partner of fitzroy why i bring up covid is when they left melbourne they haven’t been competiive since at all.
should the afl have continued in 2020 during covid
not at all it was unfair that they could travel when no one else could and teams who were doing well early in 2020 still haven’t recovered to that point.
should the grand final be played interstate/at night
never the mcg is the home of the game and night/twillight grand finals are not fair on families let alone good for the game at all.
thursday night footy
has to be disolved except at easter and maybe if every state has school holidays at the same time.
good friday footy
unnescuary
should north always play a friday night game a year.
yes because they got us into the mess of friday night footy they founded the friday night game so they should get one a year and the good friday game if we have to have one.
sunday night footy
not needed at all the last game on a sunday should start 4pm eastern time (not 430pm either) or else you lose crowds most of the year because families have school the next day.
cost of living allowance for sydney sides
that was never fair after sydney stole buddy franklin they did the right thing disolving it they can’t allow a team like sydney to use it to take players from clubs like north who way more need good players.
free agency/trade period
the afl should make it harder for clubs like north to lose players to free agency and make the compensation better also the hope francis scandal really should not have happened at all north needed him and as wooden spooners should have given them the right to him for a few years.
should the minor premier get the extra day off before the grand
yes but it needs to be consistant so we don’t have a repeat of 2012 when sydney (who could have been tanking the last few weeks of the season) and finished 3rd for fixturing reasons got the extra day off over the top two sides hawthorn (Who they played) and adeliade. best case secnario that year would have been hawks v crows friday night and than swans v pies at a neautral venue like perth adelliade or brisbane (because the g would have also been unfair as its collingwoods home ground) as they had no venue avalible in sydney on the saturday likely.
gather round
don’t need more than one and i think its unnescuary. and the adeliade sides do get an unfair advantage with this we don’t really need it.
22 v 23 games for each side
22 without gather round is best as it means everyteam gets same home and away games.
selling games interstate
never liked the idea even as a hawks supporter who understands that tassie has helped it just not that needed the excpetion is gws playing in canberra (as its their second home) and a qld team playing in north qld (likely gold coast).
