this was by far the worse season yet by a team not st kilda with the dees only winning 1 game the next worse was 4 wins (dees only win round 4 against south by 5 points). until a late slump the blues were the team to beat but the lions still looked dangerous for a 3 peat essendon and collingwood again rounded out the 4 with no chance of a change going into odds and evens.

stunning dons and pies gave them false hope early their first loss was the dees only win for the year starting a 5 game losing streak to blues, cats, lions and dons followed by a 10 goal loss to the pies ending finals hopes and then the saints beat them meaning they lost to everyone once before beating the dees than a big upset win over flag favourites blues a 10 goal win over cats gave them hope but a loss to the lions ended their hopes a upset win over dons in the odds wasn’t enouogh to make 3 games up and the blues ended slim chance.

blues and lions made the grand easily with the bllues ending the lions run of flags by 49 points to win their first flag.
