with richmond and university joining few had the cats winning the wooden spoon especially beating the pies in round 1 (they only won one more game) the blues dominated and looked like the biggest threat for a 3 peat yet with a resurgent essendon their main opposition finishing 3 games below the blues but 4 games ahead of 3rd place saints and 4th place pies. swans just missed out with university (8 wins) and richmond (6 wins) not embarrasing in their first year.

in their first year they beat the dees to start took till round 5 for win 2 against the cats. 5 straight loses had them wooden spoon favourites despite a 1 game lead over the cats until beating university in round 11 they backed it up against fitzroy in a big upset shock wins over finalists pies and saints later on got them to 9th with 6 wins.
finals summary
carlton and essendon easily got past the semis meanign the dons are only one of two teams ever to be grand finalists after being wooden spooners (the other collingwood in 1977 who failed to win the flag as well) but the blues got their 3 peat by 9 points.

in one of the earliest most dominant displays they only lost one game to essendon in round 12 clearly the flag favourites and didn’t disappoint.
