essendon equaled their own record for the biggest rise from last to 2nd (they did the same in 1908) finishing below the pies who had 12 wins dons 10 and a half ahaed of lions on percentage with the blues rounding out the 4 3 games ahead of regining premiers the tigers who were way off the pace the wooden spoon went to south 4 years after thier previous flag.

dons beat the blues but its the lions (fitzroy) who dominate the finals from 3rd beating the pies, dons and then the pies again to get flag number 7 by 11 points.
interesting season essendon
what a comeback from last to prelim finalists only drawing with the lions in the first 7 weeks winning the other 6 it was the pies who broke the run leading to a form slump losing to blues and seller dwellers swans and cats. and yet 4 wins in a row almost got them 1st losing to the pies in the last game decided 1st place they won the semi over the blues but lost to the lions in a prelim.

while finals never looked unlikely a flag was not likely most of the year in the first half of the year their non wins were against the other finals taking to ronud 11 to win against the blues to break that run their other loss was to the tigers in round 15 finishing 3rd but haivng a flawless finals campaign was enough to get them their 7th flag.
