it was that or st kilda (6th) they showed a lot of improvemnet a early win at geelong after two close loses a lot of close games and inconsistency cost them apart from big wins over the other new teams after a win over carlton had 4 in a row and were 4th
but a mid year slump cost them ending 7th 9-9.
finals summary
the first ever finals draw in the semi between the pies and the dees was the only thing of note the pies beat the dees in the replay and the tigers in the grand final for the 2nd year running for their 8th flag and 2nd in a row.

3 loses to the tigers in round 3 a massive shock to the cats in round 12 and the blues in round 18 drew the semi with the dees before beating them and the igers for the flag.
