season summary
the collapse of the pies and dees was the main story with the pies finishing 2nd last with two wins due to the shorter season one more than the last place hawks and the dees fnishing 8th after 3 straight flags. dons and tigers were the best sides joining them in finals were south and footscray edging the blues for 4th in a close battle.
hawthorn summary
one win for the whole year and bottom 2 again most of the year that win came in round 5 at home against the pies (first win against them i think it takes another 18 years for an awaay win over them). and finished last.
finals summary
dogs again go out week 1 to the swans tigers make the grand first but the dons beat the swans and then get revenge on the tigers for the semi for their 7th flag.
interesting season south
after 6 years out of it including 2 wooden spoons suddenly became a threat again only losing 4 home and away games to north in ronud 4 lions in round 6 dons in round 11 and blues in round 13 to finish 3rd beat the dogs in the semi but lost to the dons in the prelim.
premiers essendon
continued to build on their 41 return to form winning their first seven to lead early before a shock loss to saints in round 9 (each team had one bye minimum) dees in round 12 and blues in round 14 finsihed on top lost semi to the tigers but beat swans and got revnege in the grand final for their 7th flag.
