its early mornign at temaru airport on new zellands south island on june 18 2007 with 15 passengers for a 710am adeparture for eagle airways flight 2300 on a beech 2900. the captain is miles gubet 42 while fo is 32 year old only joined the airline the year before. they take off for welington on a beech 1900. the flight is supposed to be an hour and they are crusiing at 21000 feet the atis indicates rain they are told about woodburn which is clear. as they start the decent. they start their approach into the weather when the gear won’t go down according to the indication and abandon the approach. maintaining 3000 feet told to fly heading 270 and trouble shooting doesn’t help. they are told to climb away from traffic but still can’t get it down. the checklist says to do it manually they decide to divert to windburn. as they decend it still won’t go down eveen with the checklist. the fo goes into the cabin to tell the passengers whats going on with the landing gear. they are down to an hour of fuel. they try isolating power to the motor which doesn’t work so they try turning the power off doesn’t work. they are forced to land with no gear. even moving passengers around with the emergency door. they disable unneeded electricity. the landing luckily didin’t go too badly with a screeching sound but it is all safe. they look at a landing gear failure in january and a hydrolic leak a few weeks later.and find there is no hydrolic fluid and they find it leaked in flight. they look at how the system works and at the acturaters. they find another flight had the same problem in fact 14 had the problem of the fleet. and find the machine marks and figure out it was a fatigue crack they look at how long they should last and they didn’t last that long. and find that the manufacturer wasn’t adiequette and this lead to failing twice as fast. the pilots actions weren’t critiercised.
