this gospel has two parts to it the first is about giving to the poor and not having more than you need which is good thing as in heaven you don’t need earthly possesions or wealth. the 2nd part is more relevant to advent and it is john the baptist proclaiming that jesus is coming to baptise you in a more powerful way then he ever could which is true and interestingly john the baptist is the one who eventually baptises jesus which will we cover in a few weeks i think as baptism of the lord is only proclaimed if the sunday after the epithany is before the 13th of january which it is this year. i will also be doing a special gospel reflection on the christmas day gospel (christmas day is a wenesday this year) As well as the sunday ones.
an us millitary ship is fighting iranian gun boats in the persian gulf when they find a plane heading towards them and they think its millitary but not really act supicisiosly in fact its a normal iran air a300 doing nothing wrong at all but they shoot it down illegally killing all 290 on board (worse pre mh17 shootdown even worse than the korean air shootdown in 83 this was 88). the cause was the us milliatry ship looking for combat and not following procedure at all in checkiong if it was civillian iran had no direct part in the accident and the plane is innocent but america doesn’t punish the ship crew instead consider them heroes for their war effort no jail time or anything which is a disgrace and takes years to even componsate the victims by america.
next time a 747 is attacked by a bomb.
a fed ex flight to california from memphis has the pilots attacked by a off duty pilot in the jump seat the fo struggles to get the plane back to memphis and at one point no one is flying the plane but the captain takes over and gets the dc-10 back to memphis safely with no deaths despite the fligth engineer being the worse injured the cause was mental issues with the off duty pilot who was facing losing his job and marriage break up.
next time american millitary murders nearly 300 people.
a 747 flying from tokyo to osaka with 509 passengers and 15 crew on board suddenly has an explosvie decompression forcing the crew to try and return to tokyo but the hydrollics are all gone and the plane is out of contorl with oxygen failing in the back of the plane and the crew thinknig it s better to return to tokyo than fly to nagoya or yokota millitary air base eventually they end up heading towards the monutains of centreal japan despite flying for just over 30 minutes they eventually crash into a mountain after a nose dive. the japanese don’t get to the site till the next day due to laziness disagreements and falsely thinking no one survived leading to the biggest death toll of a single crash 520 but amaazingly 4 including an off duty flight attendant who was a passenegr survive the night on the mountain. the cause was a tail strike 7 years earlier wasn’t fixed properally and the plane was lucky not to have crashed already the pilots did well to keep the plane flying for 32 minutes but they could never have saved the plane.
next time an attack on a dc-10 crew.
a dhl a300 departs baghdad for bahrain when a group of terrroists fire a missle at it on climb out not only has no plane landed after being hit by a missile they lose all hydrolics right away which also no crew has landed safely from in 2003 the cargo pilots are against the odds as they try and return to baghdad barely missing a 2nd missile a french journalist didn’t intervene while filimg the terroistss for her magazine in a slightly selifsh way. the a300 is too high on its first attempt and has to go around again but somehow get the a300 to land safely. there was anti missile equipment that exists but too expensive so it wasn’t installed there was also another thing that would have stopped the hydrolic leak destryoying the controllers but same problem as why its not used.
next time 520 die after 7 years of a problem.
a 737 flying accross the isalnds of hawaii from hilo to honolulu when at curising height the roof comes off taking with it a 39 year veteran flight attendant (not a 39 year old one one who had been a flight attendant for 39 years) the crew try and divert to maui (this is the first air crash ep with a female pilot in this case the first officer) and lands safely with only the flight attendant missing and dead the roof came off because of the age of the plane meant it wasn’t maintained properally with coorosion a lucky landing indeed.
next time a a300 in a war zone faces enormorus odds.
“preparations”
lika trains her pokemon and comes up with a strategy to beat miltank thats unique with ash’s help but than the area is attacked but stopped quickly but in doing so some of her pokemon are hurt and are told it will take a coouple of days before they can battle so the gym battle is delayed 3 days.

Donald trump has a good idea abolishing daylight savings as it’s unnatural and the sun ends up too late for a lot of people. Ex liberal minister Kevin Andrews has passed away aged 69 with cancer. Liverpool drew with Fulham 2-2 in a major shock
in a awful weather day in 1990 in the northeast of the us atc bosses force new york to handle too many flights one of which an avianca 707 from medeilin columbia is forced to circle endlessly due to no visibillity and heavy wind with 157 people onboard. they are eventually cleared to approach jfk as boston their alternate is too far now due to the endless circuling (they had 2 hours spare of fuel but evne that was barely enough to get one approach in the high traffic weather). and the approach nearly crashes the plane due to the windshear forcing them to nearly crash by the time they get a 2nd approach clearence its too late they run out of fuel and crash into long island killing 73 people (all but one of the crew and 61 passengers). the cause was mostly atc error but the work load was ridicilous weather also meant they couldn’t land on their only attempt the pilots not saying emergency is blamed but i think thats a stretch to say that caused the crash nor the captains lack of english proficency.
next time season 3 a roof and a 39 year veteran goes missing on a 737.
in the lead up to christams 1995 (december 20) a american 757 departs miami for cali columbia with 164 people on board two hours late due to seasonal traffic it is one of the passengers 21st birthday as well. the 757 is pretty automated a few seat swaps just before decent including th birthday girl acctually makes a difference interestingly in saving a few lives as well as witihni a family. cali doesn’t have radar in the 90s due to millitants so they need to report a lot to th econtroller but when they are cleared direct to cali they delete the way points from the computer so they don’t exacty know where they are and leads to more confusion with a runway change forcing them to rush but would have made up time if they were succesful eventually heading to the 2nd way point but accidently turn towards bogota by the time they realise they are lost and head back towards the airport they are too low and hit a mountain killing all but 5 people (the birthday girl the man who her parents embarrased her talking to (the parents die) and the dad and two kids (the son dies later the mom was killed in the crash). the cause was pilot error with the speed breaks the final straw in what sealed their fate.
next itme how long can a 707 circle answer not forever.
a bunch of russian school children from the town of ufa are flying to barcelona from moscow on a baskerian airlines tu-154 flown by 5 russian pilots and it wasn’t their original flight due to a error from the travel agency meanwhile a dhl 757 prepares to depart bergamo italy for brussells with just two pilots onboard. zurich atc is under the control of peter nelisen that night but maitence shuts down a lot of safety features inclduing the phone lines and colision avoidance equipemnt which should be illeagel when aircraft are flying. the russians are at 36000 feet while the dhl is cleared to the same altitude meanwhile the controller than has to handle an unscheduled flight to fredicsharven which he can’t hand off to due to the matience people this becomes a big probolem and after a thai flight is handed over to munich they are the only 3 planes under his control even another controller can’t get through due to the maitence people messing with the phone line. the russians find out about the dhl first from tcas and are told to climb by tcas while the dhl is told to decend by tcas but the russians are told by neilsen to decend which he didn’t know that call means the dhl couldn’t get their message of decent to him the russian plane hits the dhl the russian plane is destroyed and crashes the dhl pretty much has the same fate with no survivors. the blame is on the russian pilots for disobeying tcas and the maitences effect as well as bad management leaving a lone controller in command but the controller neilsen who did not have a direct part in causing the colision is stabbed by a man who lost his family in the colision (not part of the school group but on that plane) and the stabber gets away with murder litterally only spends a few monuths in jail shows no remorse (this isn’t shown in the show) and goes to his soviet home (only say soviet because i can’t verify if its still part of russia or part of a southern automonius region that might be its own country) and he has done things for his community but he should not have been let out of jail at all.
next time a christmas tragedy in the andes.
an air france a300 ends up being boarded by terroists claiming to be police hijack the plane and request to fly to paris from algeria but algeria won’t co operate at all and it takes 3 civilians to be shot for the plane to fly to france but only say marsielle where they won’t refuel the plane for paris and the special forces storm the plane killing the hijackers and no one else amazingly the plane was to attack the eifel tower but is never confirmed.
next time an innocent controller is killed by a mad soviet parent who loses his kids in a crash.
a communter plane leaves atlanta for gulfport missipi on a brasila aircraft for asa with 29 people on board slightly late on climb out though the left engine fails causing the plane to swerve to the left causing the crew to struggle to keep the plane under control and try to return to atlanta but without much control and falling they wouldn’t make it and decide to head for west georgia regional airport which is closer and even try a visial but even though thats too far and the crew finally realise its not just a engine/propeller failure its completly destroyed they crash land a field without landing gear everyone initally survives but the post crash fire seals the captains fate and a few passengers die the fo is the last out of the plane alive and survives his ordeal with help from a passenger who also makes it. the cause was the propellers corrosion damage caused the crash the pilots were lucky to keep flying for 9 minutes in this situation.
next time war hijacking a300.
a crew who mostly know each other are preparing to operate a bac one eleveen to malaga from biringham except the first officer whose come from manchester to operate the flight with 81 passengers on board. on climb out the windscreen comes off all of a sudden leading to a fog control difficulities and the captain is sucked out but a flight attedant holds on to him to save his life while the first officer tries to land the plane in southhampton against the odds an airport hes not familar with but does so succesfully with no deaths even the captain survives his ordeal. the investigation figures out that the night before maitence had put the wrong sized bolts into the windscreen which leads to a controversal investigation as ba doesn’t like the technique of using a human psychologist to figure out what happened it is still an amazing story 20 years later though.
next time propeller failure 9 minutes to save a plane.
an a330 leaves toronto for lisbon with about 300 people on board for air transat luckily in the end they are south of their original route the first sign of trouble is in oil warning they than get a fuel imballance warning which the crew try and fix by using the crossfeed vales which you should not do in a leek but it is a fuel leak causing both enginges to fail and they need to glide to azores for a emergency landing which they should make but end up landing fast blowing tires but saefly with no deaths the cause of the leak was falty part in the fuel system that had been rubbing for 5 days before t broke the cross feed vale decision was the other cause of the accident as it was only the rigth engine that had the problem.
next time a cockpit window falls out.
an md-80 leaves mexico for san fransisco for alaska airlines when they have problems with the horizonal stabillizer and try and fix it with the controls only making it worse they want to divert to lax but the airline says no due to the flow but they try anyway and head over water to fix the problem but eventually the plane loses control completly and nose dives into the ocean killing all 88 people on board. the cause was too long between repairs and falty maitence which a whistle blower had reported to the faa and lost his job as a result and the plane only needed to make it two more mounths to the fix when the crash happened. the fault was in the tail with the horizonal stabilizer.
next time an a330 breaks records without fuel.
one of the craziest crashes of 1996 is an aeroperu 757 from lima to santiago with 70 people on board with experienced pilots the fo david fernadezs uncule will investigate the accident stranegly. almost immediately after take off the altitude and speed indications fail which confuses the crew and they head out over water before requesting return to lima but get a lot of false warnings and can’t work the auto pilot due to the instruments not working including ruder ratio, mach speed trim, overspeed, stall, over speed and stall at the same time which at this point the fo decides to get help from another plane a 707 the altitude is never right but they get the groundd speed from atc and the plane is controable but it is a crazy emergency and the crew were right saying ground crew could have mishandeld the plane not realising they had been decending even when the gpws goes off which is the only correct alarm they get as its powered seperately so even when they think they are near 10000 feet with breaks on which makes no sense the crew try and stay aloft but suddenly one of the wings hits the ocean after 20 seconds of battling to save the 757 it sinks killing all on board. the cause was a peice of tape on the pitot tubes left by ground crew by accident due to cleaning the guy is charged with man slaughter which is harsh and ends the airlines operations 3 years later after a long battle to see whose responsible which is hard to say but proably the airline more than the manufacturor boeing.
next time a whistle blower can’t save 88 lives.
an md-11 leaves new york for geneva for swiss air with 229 pepole on board after a bit of radio silence they contact atc in canada it was also one of the first planes to have personal tvs. just after 1010pm the first sign of smoke is an odd smell behind the fo which doesn’t lead to much but a fa also notices the smell when she visits the cockpit but until it comes back it doesn’t change anything but they than declare pan pan pan and request decent and diversion to boston but change to halifax when they find out they are a lot closer to halifax. the crew follow checklists and decend quite slowly which isn’t going to help them at all there is no smoke in the cabin at any point. the crew are told runway 06 is expecteed. than they realise they are way too high too fast and too heavy to land in 30 miles which as close they get to the runway due to the fuel ammonut is too much and they make the fateful decision to dump over the water which takes them away from the airport even though the fos whants to avoid dumping fuel they decide to. the cabin power is than turned off which seals the fate of the plane as it deactivates the fans that were keeping the fire out of the cockpit and than the autopilot fails followed by all instruments and the cvr and fdr all within 60 seconds and than communication is lost at 1025pm they somehow stay in the air for 6 minutes but it is assumed the captain is dead as he wasn’t in his seat and was fighting the fire the fo was alive as he shut down engine no 2 1 minute before impact there emergency decleartion was missed due to atc distractions they hit the ocean with no survivors. the plane is in 3 million pieces and only 1 body intact. the cause of the fire was a arched wire behind the cockpit in the attic of the plane. they also say the crew could never have made it to safety which is disputed as if they decended at a reasonable rate dumped fuel earlier and kept cabin power on they might have made it the enteratiment system was related to the wires that caused the fire.
next time a piece of tape 70 lives a late night flight.
an american airlines flight crew prepares to depart dallas for little rock late and know with the weather and crew hours means they need a plane quickly which they get and their md-80 with 139 passengers and crew on board leaves for a late night flight in bad storms the weather is inialally ok but they are warned about two thunderstorms in the area and a bolwing alley type approach to get through but it will get worse and they already see lightning. the winds are also dnagerous that night and even though the crew disagree with each other on the crosswind limit its already out of range for wet runways and wouldn’t be legal on a dry runway well before they attempt to land. the controller doesn’t have good radar in little rock either and suggests runway 22 left for landing which is ok until a windshear alert forces them to change to land in the opposite direction runway 4 right which delays landing and lose strack of the storm the first officer has an easier time spotting the runway then the captain who can’t see it at all they don’t abandon the landing even switching to an ils approach and visibillity is out of limits as well with heavy rain as well. they somehow land on the runway but than immediately slide right off it at high speed into a wooden fence 10 passengers and the captain are killed in the crash and fire. the ntsb lead by greg feith investigate the crash and figure out pilot error involving landing in a dangerous storm but more importantly forgetting to arm the spoilers which meant they had no chance of slowing down at all. the fos evidence is contradictory to the cvr which doesn’t help the investigation the crews get there itis also meant they wouldn’t divert or returning to dallas.
next time an inferno brings down an md-11.
due to the fact that season 25 premiers in the new year i am doing air crash episode recaps again.
on febuary 24 1989 a united airlines boeing 747-100 prepares to depart honolulu for auckland nz with the crew a bit more on alert due to being two mounths after lockerbie. the flight departs in the middle of the night from hawaii and avoids storms on its climb to 33000 feet not that it makes that altitude as it passes 23000 feet a sound is heard by passengers near the cargo door described as a grinding noise and than a thud followed by an explosion as the cargo door leaves the aircraft a flight attendant is hanging onto the stairwell people missing or injured and the number 3 engine is damaged 9 passengers are already gone and the oxygen supply is gone so they have to decend fast for brievable air and try and return to honolulu the crew have to shut down engine no 3. contorl problems and damage to the numbr 4 engine combined with losing altitude makes it difficult to attempt to get back as well as dumping fuel as they are still 60 miles from the airport as the flight enginneer goes and has a look at the damage which is crazy the pilots than go to full power which destroys the number 4 engine as it catches fire and they shut it down meaning they only have the left side engines working its a massive juggling act but they do get close to the airport but thant hey realise the flaps won’t fully extend and even consider a ditching but they land safely on runway 8 left with only the 9 earlier deaths the crew than see the hole in the cabin which shocks the pilots how big it was. the ntsb investigate the accident but either to protect boeing or lack of real evidence they come up with the wrong cause of the cargo door failure. leigh cambell one of the deads parents decide to their own investigation and come to the conclusion which is right that the cargo doors electircal system and design was the cause as to make money they desinged it in a way that had caused probelms on the similar dc-10 in the 70s and a pan am flight two years earlier the ntsb only change it after a similar incident in 1992 that it was a design flaw not ground crew mishandling that caused the accident.
next time weather delays and spoilers doom an md-80
