a aloha 737 is doing a short flight from hilo to honolulu hawaii with a 19 year old plane which is half the experience of the senior flight attandant cb lancing whose has been one for 39 years. a passengers notices something strange during boarding which looks like a crack. at 24000 feet crusing height the crew want to check weather when a explosion takes the roof off the first class cabin. cb lancing is sucked out the other flight attandants are hurt. they divert to the island of maui for a landing other than the flight attendant everyone is in the plane but are hurt and are having trouble. the plane is barely holding it together with the floor beams. maui has mountains they have to avoid they don’t have much facilities for an emergency landing. at 148pm they contact them and therre is confusion over the flight numbebr at stages. problems include a engine issue and the gear indicator putting the plane in more danger but they land safely despite needing assistance to evacuate. the flaps also have the crew worried. only cb lancing is killed due to being sucked out they stop safely with quite a few injuries. the ntsb investigate the accident and find the plane had exceeded its service life due to a lot of short flights combined with poor maitence on the old plane caused the roof to come off the plane flew since may 1969 before the accident in 1988.
