ash and friends go to professor oak for advice about the pokemon league he says its too late to train and to just go and compete and try his hardest and leave immediately which he does. they figure out a shortcut when they are confronted by a trainer named otoshi and his maraoak who challenges ash to a battle ash is reluctant to when he finds out he must turn over his badges if he loses. they agree to battle due to otoshi forcing it the first pokemon he uses his bulbasaur which despite the type advantage proves to be weaker than maraoak. but pikachu provides an upset in beating maraoak by using speed and an eleectric attack otoshi reveals he was robbed of his badges by team rocket who trapped him using food. ash agrees to help get them back despite being against the clock to get to the league. jessie than steals the badges from james and meowth to enter the league herself. ash and friends find james and moewth but they reveal what happened as well as james’s bottle cap obsession as well as other odd things. maraoak at this point leaves otoshi due to the incident. jessie tries to rob another trainer but doesn’t succeed because james interviens and explains he is upset with jessie for robbing them despite being a team. otoshi confronts team rocket to get the badges back using his doduo who can’t much arbok and jessie is about to steal it when maraoak appears inspired by seeing other trainers practice decides to rejoin otoshis team and beats team rocket. otoshi says goodbye to ash and friends who head for the pokemon league.
next time ash takes part in the torch relay.
