something compels ash and liko to touch the soul dew despite concerns it causes them to be teleported away but thats not all it changes there bodies into latios (ash) And latias (liko) but they don’t know that yet. they are teleported to where the latias is still being attacked and asks for help they try and call their pokemon partners but they weren’t teleported initally with them but then a hoopa ring appears.
