the hoopa rings give them their partners but they won’t listen to ash or liko which confusses them and suddenly undersatnd pikachu and florgato (spoiler as it hasn’t evolved in the dub but has evolved in the japan version) and look at each other and only see that the other is a lati this confuses them and something triggers in their memory but decide to work together for now.
