after 5 years of the same bottom 2 the blues finally broke through to finish 6th above south and st kilda going into odds and evens with saints again winless at the other end the pies and dons again dominated with fitzroy and melbourne rounding out the 4 before odds and evens.

nothing much of note other than the dees pulling ahead of the cats who fell to 7th with south getting 5th and the blues best yet 6th.
most interesting sesaon carlton
after a goalless loss to sotuh in round 2 there was no indication of an improvemnet
and only beating saints befor e round 8 and then wins over geelong, south and saints before dees broke their run but big shock wins over dons and lions had finals not out of the question but only won 1 of their last 4 against the saints to finish 6th.
finals summary
the pies got stunned by the lions who fell to the dons who beat the dees but because the pies were on top they had the right to play the dons for the flag with collingwood getting their first premership by 33

were dominant 2 of theri 3 loses where to fitzroy the other was the gf rematch in round 6 and were close to the top of the ladder most of the year a dominant effort.
