guide willow parkrun

today im doing something special a guide to my local parkrun which i attend most saturdays (weather permiting).

what is parkrun it is a event where you walk or run (despite the name running is not compulsory) 5kms every saturday at 8am (some states and countries have different times).

location it is located at willow park wodonga which is on the vic/nsw border on hte victorian side albury is on the ohter side of the board

. course with the starting line located near the sporting grounds the course goes follows a path usually to a rock at les stone park past the brockely st bridge then you get back to the start but you keep going and turn just before a hill at the football ground then you turn into a slightly down hill route turning just before one more bridge and then follow the path back through the sport grounds to the start line.

now sometimes if you wnat to you can voleenteer there are many roles from leading the first time brief a run director that makes sure everything is run well and leads the briefing at the start which you must listen and not talk over the run director. there is barcode scanners handouts and time keper which are used to confirm you have done the parkrun and gets you your time you need to register with parkrun to get a result which is free (the whole event is free) and you can visit other parkruns and do them in other places as well. other roles are tail walker which is walking at the back of the pack (you can’t run) and allso collect cones that are used to keep people oin the correct course you must finish last and rarely get under the hour. parkwalker is not the same role as tailwalker instead its just an unoffical role to encourage people to walk the course. they do have a course checker (i think its usually the run director) to checkk its safe before the event. lastly there is a photographer which is self explaniatory. you do get vulenteering credits for doing it.

there are milestones at different stages but they are quite a bit apart 10 25 100 250 500 and i’m not sure whats after that i perrsonally am a bit off my 250 milestone and have only done willow. volenterring milesetones are the same.

you don’t need to be really fit and speed doesn’t matter you just have to have fun.
