they arrive in littleroot town and head for the professsors lab on the way they run into a girl named claudia who is nervous about getting her statrter pokemon and notices something about lilash that makes her pause, at professors birches lab he explains that there is a package for lilash but first wants to ask questinos about recent events when claudia interjects to get her starter pokemon (she chooses torchic) and then asks quesitons about pokemon contests which intrigues lilash when someone turns up upset.
