ash is ready for the gym battle and says even without charizard he has a good chance to win the badge. they find out it is a bug type gym which scares misty entirely. ash battles bugsy the leader in a 3 on 3 match. bugsy uses spinarak against cyndaquil which can’t get warmed up and ash switches to chikorita (despite a type disadvantage). chikorita knocks spinarak out but loses to metapod in a suprsiing match. team rocket plan to steal the bug types or pikachu. ash uses pikachu against metapod which is able to win that round but scyther is too tough for pikachu forcing ash to use cyndaquil which even when it gets ready for fire type attacks still can’t get around scythers swords dance but still wins the match giving ash his 2nd johto badge. ash and friends than get the pokeballs from macey (Kurt made them).
