a southern dc-9 heading to atlanta encounters a horrible hail storm and misjudge it causing both engines to fail they try and glide to dobbins air force base but avoiding the strom sees them lose too much altitude they try for another runway but even thats too far and they put it down on a highway the cause was the engines ingested too much hail and rain dooming the plane the crews mishandling of the situation combined with overflying an airport that no one not even atc knew exsisted didn’t help only 21 passengers and the 2 flight attendants survive 60 passengers and the pilots die.
