this was fitzroys to lose dominating the season while melbourne were the last team to lose in round 6 a week after beating fitzroy but they slumped in the 2nd half of the year so fitzroy 11 wins geelong (who kept saints to 2 behinds in last home and away game) collingwood 10 wins essendon 9 wins melbourne 8 wins south 5 wins (but there not done) carlton 3 wins st kilda winless again.

fitzroy easily won the odds booking a grand final against south (how) south won all three even games so even they were 5th after odds and evens but under the controversal system will be thier oponents despite geelong keeping st kilda to an even lower score than round 14 thats right 1 behind to start the game was all they scored the 161 point margin was the record for a while.

as there was only one final i might just right a summary of fitzroys one point win over south to go back to back despite trailing by 14 at 1/4 time nad 7 at 3/4 time and only kicking 3 goals (3.9 to 3.8).
most interesting south
a big win over carlton started them well before loisng to fitzroy and being held goalless by essendon (in the 2nd lowest scoring gaem ever 1.9 to 0.9) and collingwood before beating st kilda and geelong in a upset. but loses to meloburne and a goalless effort in a loss to carlton had them worried as well as fitzroy and essendon and collingwood ending any hope of top 4. breaking their drought against st kilda but losing to geelnog had them 6th 4 games adrift of 5th before beating melbourne and then in the evens had a critical win over geelong securing them an advantage beating essendon and st kilda was enoguh for a grand final spot that they lose to fitzroty.

fitzroy were better than 1898 losing to melbourne in a top of the table clash in round 5 geelong and collinwood their only blemishes and won the flag over south in a thrilling grand final.
